Harold L. Monk, Jr., CPA, CFE

Harold L. Monk Jr. is the Managing Partner in the firm of Davis, Monk & Company of Gainesville, Florida. Born and raised in Gainesville, he graduated from the University of Florida in 1968 with a BSBA degree, majoring in accounting. He worked as an internal auditor for the University of Florida for one year before joining a large local firm in 1969. In 1977, he helped form the firm of Davis, Monk & Company. Harold is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Florida and is a Certified Fraud Examiner.

Active professionally, Harold Monk is a past President of the North Central Florida Chapter of the FICPA. He has served the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants as a member of numerous committees, and as a member of the Board of Governors, and as a CPE Discussion Leader. Harold was recognized as an “Outstanding Seminar Leader” for seven years by the FICPA, and was recognized as one of the top twenty instructors nationally for numerous years by the American Institute of CPAs. Harold continues to be an active speaker throughout the country on accounting and auditing issues. He has also served as a technical investigating officer for the Florida State Board of Accountancy. For several years, he chaired the joint task force for the Auditor General’s office and the Florida Board of Accountancy responsible for reviewing governmental audits filed with the State. In 2002 US Comptroller General David Walker appointed him to the Advisory Council for the GAO.

He has served the American Institute of CPAs as a member of numerous committees. Harold is currently serving as Chairman of the Auditing Standards Board and member of the Special Committee for Enhanced Business Reporting. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the AICPA and served as chairman of the Private Companies Practice Section of the Institute. Other service includes the CPE Executive Committee, Peer Review Board, Auditing Subcommittee of the AICPA Board of Examiners, the Special Committee on Financial Reporting, Special Committee on Assurance Services, and as a member of the Region IX Trial Board. Harold also recently completed four years of service on the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council, an advisory group to the Financial Accounting Standards Board. During the past year Harold has also served as President of the Accounting Research Association, a funding source for both GASB and FASB. Harold is currently serving on the Appointments Panel for the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB).

Harold has served on the adjunct faculty of the University of Florida’s School of Accounting as an auditing instructor and has had articles published in the Florida Accounting News, the CPA Journal, and the Journal of Accountancy. He is also the author of the AICPA’s continuing education program entitled “Advanced Auditing for Partners and Managers” and “Compliance Auditing.” He is a co-author for Practitioner Publishing Company’s “Guide to Single Audits,” “Audits of Local Governments,” “Preparing Nonprofit Financial Statements,” and their continuing education programs “Annual Accounting and Auditing Update” and “Maximizing Single Audit Efficiency.” Accounting Today Magazine named Harold one of the100 most influential people in accounting for the years 1997 through 2000. Harold is also a Certified Fraud Examiner.
